Two souls, without eachother, either is lost and falls into those troubled waters of despair and sadness, but also of bright dreams and hopes.

Our thoughts shape them, making them remain still yet troubled. One day, we decide to pour them into a common stream of consciousness and from that exchange suddenly they don’t belong to us anymore. Now they are one, just like our story.

They merge and become one body of water. We look down and imitate them, we come together, we make this bridge.

Technique

The three pieces were made with red terracotta, coil built, double fired. Each sculpture was modelled by hand and then attached to the vessel, controlling the drying process to avoid cracking.

The jugs were sculpted after hand building a base and the handles were attached and modelled last. The inside of the jugs, as well as their cheeks were burnished to add texturing, as well as the bottom of the bigger vessel. To reserve the burnish effect, I a bisque firing first

and then a higher temperature firing with a slow ramp, method also used to achieve a more matured colour in the clay.

Finally, finger woven [Andean technique] cotton threads, were added into the braids of the female figure and in the right arm of the male figure.

La llamada / The calling (2025)

D 24 x H 19.5cm

Photographs by Claudia Milena

The calling is a project showcasing two farmers in the mountain, executing the ancient practice of transhumance, in this case during the summertime, to the mountains up high. One farmer calls the llamas, who we can find hiding in different parts of the mountain, observed by the shining sun and clouds around them. The other one takes care of a baby who didn’t want to accompany the rest of them.

Strong bonds can’t be broken even by the inclemency of the weather.

Boy and friend

H 17 x W 23,5 cm

Photographs by Claudia Milena

The child sleeps, heavy breathing; one, two, three in sync with his friend, unbothered but alert

A sound, perhaps an indefense vizcacha, not to worry, but nevertheless, alert

The child and his friend, a tender story

Born on the same day, they grow together

At first, they were the same size, but as seasons pass the child wonders:

Why does time pass faster for my friend?

We are the same age, yet he is as big as my father,

We have the same experience, yet he perceives things I cannot

We hhave the same family, yet I know the mountains call him

I wonder how long he will stay, for now,

I sleep, heavy breathing; one, two, three...

Egg thief

D 9 cm x H 10 cm

Photographs by Claudia Milena

He approaches, hiding behind the few plants around, dry, brittle but dense enough to cover his small figure. He kneels, he looks around, no sounds, no wind, nothing seems to disturb the rubble and dirt around him. Two steps, one step, three steps, now; quick!

‘’They were big! Bigger than me! Two of them, we fought, I struggled, one of us won in the end’’

‘’That was dangerous’’ - said the concerned friend

‘’I would do it again’’ - he answered

And they and their empty stomachs continued the journey.
